There is a popular opinion that all the dogs, unlike cats, love swimming and always do this when they have an opportunity. But this opinion is not a complete truth because the ability and the desire to swim are determined by the character and temper of your pet. There are even breeds that are not able to swim at all, but the skilled trainer will easily make an awesome swimmer of your dog.
The first category of natural-born swimmers includes breeds such as English and Irish Setter, Cocker Spaniel, English Spaniel, Labrador Retriever, Golden Labrador, and Newfoundland. These dogs have a natural ability to swim due to their genetic memory and very strong limbs. Many of these breeds were bred to hunt the waterfowl or rescue people from the water.
There are also some breeds, which are hate and also unable to swim: Boxers, Bulldogs, Dachshunds. They are simply unable to move in water due to their short limbs.
The dogs of other breeds can be easily trained to swim if you want them to. But there are a lot of things depend on the character of your pet and its level of trust towards you.
