The most common diseases in Newfoundlands – are hip dysplasia and heart diseases.
Hip dysplasia. This breed, the same as other massive breeds, often faces hip dysplasia problems, which can lead to lameness. It is strongly recommended to buy a dog that has a certificate, which proves the absence of hip dysplasia.
Heart diseases. Newfoundlands often have a genetic predisposition to heart disease, which is called subaortic stenosis (SAS). It can lead to premature death of your pet.
Breeders, who love their work, often send all the puppies in the age between 8 and 12 weeks to the cardiologist to check their hearts. All the grown-up Newfoundlands should pass this test again in order to be allowed to participate in breeding-programs.
