In general, whippets are very calm and smart companion dogs. It is easy for them to sleep all day on their loved sofa. They never show an aggression towards other animals. No matter what happens, whippets are very loyal to their owners but still treat all the strangers very well. Whippets do not tend to bite, so they can be safely left with small children.
They can bark at strangers, but sometimes they just don't want to, so these dogs will not fit a role of a guard dog. They are non-suspect and trusting. However, when they are running on the street or participating in the run, whippets will show a truly excellent performance by pursuing their "offender" (even if it is an artificial rabbit) with the courage of a lion.
